Low-resistance tyres with optimised rolling characteristics offer enormous energy-saving potential. There is scope for saving 3 to 5% energy – without reducing safety. In addition, thanks to their special rubber compound, profile and size as well as excellent dimensional stability, these tyres cause considerably less rolling noise. Audi equips its e-models with special low-resistance tyres. But rolling resistance is of decisive importance for the other models, too, for instance when it comes to which tyres to fit as their original equipment. Another aspect that directly influences fuel consumption is tyre pressure. Even slight variations from the optimum pressure lead to increased fuel consumption.
