In 1886 a bicycle manufacturing department was added to the Neckarsulmer Strickmaschinenfabrik knitting-machine factory. NSU started to build motorcycles in 1901 and cars five years later. In 1929 the manufacture of cars was abandoned for a time for the company to concentrate fully on motorcycles. It was three decades later, in 1958, before automobiles were again produced in Neckarsulm.
NSU Prinz 3
The NSU Prinz 3 was built from 1957 to 1960. It had a twin-cylinder air-cooled rear engine. From 1959 on, the NSU Prinz’s engine developed 30 bhp.
NSU 1200 C
Various versions of the NSU 1200 C were sold between 1965 and 1973, with power outputs between 53 and 66 bhp.
NSU 1200 TT
The NSU Prinz remained in production from 1967 to 1972 and had a 65 bhp engine. The competition version was successful in motorsport, winning 29 national championships.
Wankel Spider
The first massed produced Wankel engine vehicles were sold 2,375 times during the three year period of construction from 1964 to 1967.
Rennmax
Characteristic for this company racing motorcycle dating from 1953 is its silumin motor case. A top speed of 186 kh/h was achieved.
